Fall in Love with your home all over again

Working with Pam

 About Pam:

Pam is passionate about helping people transform their space and environment so that they come home to an inspiring place they love. Pam is committed to listening to the ideas and design concerns of her clients, investigating the space and figuring out what can be done to display a special piece of artwork, furniture, wall or ceiling to be the best that it can be.

Pam has been performing these joyful transformations for 14 years. She has educated herself extensively through many diverse trainings including all manners of glazing, textured, metallic and polished plasters, foils, leafing, and furniture, and continues to update her skills in ongoing classes. All of her techniques have been extensively field tested, with exceptional results.

Pam's work has been widely displayed in multiple Show Home events, including 9 rooms in the Colorado Parade Of Homes, a recent Junior Symphony Guild Show Home, with many homes and multiple restaurants along the Front Range, in the Vail Valley and even Marrakech, Morocco!

Scheduling, Rates, Policies and Procedures

Scheduling

Projects must be scheduled and contracts signed a minimum of 3 weeks before the work is scheduled to start. Please note, due to high seasonal work volume, a 6 week minimum will be required between September 1st and December 1st.

Initial Consultation

Initial Consultations of up to 1 hour are provided at no charge. They must be scheduled at least 1 week ahead of time. For homes that are more than 40 miles from Lafayette, there will be a $50.00 charge.

The initial consultation includes color and design recommendations and ideas, as well as advice on products and techniques particularly appropriate for the space. At this point, Pam will also take measurements and discuss your preferences and project budget with you to then provide sample boards and a bid.

Scheduling Your Initial Consultation

Call or email Pam to schedule your initial consultation at least 1 week prior to your desired meeting time. At that point, Pam will ask you to be ready to answer the following questions:
  • What is the type of room (bathroom, kitchen, studio)?
  • How are the walls currently finished?
  • What is your timeline? When do you want the project finished?
  • Are there any other contractors or service professionals to schedule around ?
  • What is your budget for the project?
  • What is your design style?
  • How do you want your room to feel? Think of 3-4 words to describe the effect you want? (for example, dramatic, soothing or contemporary?)

After our phone call or email, we will schedule an initial consultation to talk about your project in more depth. (see above)

Proposals

After the initial consultation, Pam will prepare a detailed bid and proposal.

Once the client has reviewed the proposal and decided to go ahead with the project, the client will need to fax a signed contract to Pam in order to schedule the job and have Pam design sample boards. A 50% deposit will be due when Pam delivers the sample boards.

Sample Boards

A Sample Board is a 18" x 24" or 24"x 24" finished example of the proposed finish, showing color, texture and design effect. The initial bid includes 2-3 boards showing variations in color and effect. In the rare instance that none of the boards achieve your design requirements, another round of boards can be developed at a charge of $100-200 per board.

Change in Job Scope

Occasionally, once work on a project has begun, clients may have added needs or additions that will change the scope of the project. While Pam welcomes creative additions, no additional work will be undertaken until a new bid is presented and a new contract is signed. Please note, because of the nature of painting jobs, clients can save a considerable amount of money, and speed the completion of their jobs by reducing changes and additions, and considering as much as possible, the full scope of the project before work has begun.

Onsite Policies

  • Pam paints onsite Monday-Thursday. On Fridays, she may be reached at her studio by phone or email.

  • Before work is begun, clients must clear a 4 foot space around each area to be painted.

  • Materials and Ladders will be left onsite for the duration of the project. Typically this is in the area to be painted. If clients have a need for other arrangements, they need to let Pam know.
  • If other contractors (carpet, electrical, construction, etc.) are in the space during the time Pam is painting, this may considerably lengthen the time for completion and effect the price. Before the initial contract is signed, clients should inform Pam of anyone else who will be working in the space during the scheduled painting time.

Project Cost

Costs on decorative finishes can vary widely, depending upon the size of the room, the number and complexity of layers involved, and additional factors such as custom tinting, wall texture and/or spacing in the work area. After the initial consultation Pam will provide a detailed bid based on the clients' unique needs. Work will begin after the bid is approved and a contract signed.

Project Minimum

There is a project minimum of $1,500, reflecting the custom nature of the work, and the fact that much of her work is designed and performed before even reaching your home.

Project Samples and Costs

To help you get a  better sense of how individual projects might actually be priced for a bid, please consider the following examples. The following pricing is for a room with approximately 500 square feet of wall space, in this example, determined by measuring height (8ft.) x width (12ft.) x the number of walls (4).

Glazing with a soft, cloudy glaze of 1-3 colors over textured walls, including 2-3 materials and all materials = $1,500

Plastering flat walls with a skip trowel effect using tinted plaster, then glazing the same room = $2,750

Metallic plastering that same wall, with a coordinating basecoat underneath and 2-3 layers of plaster to bring out the shimmer = $3,500-$4,000

Custom tinting and other factors can effect this pricing, but hopefully the above pricing shows that many alternatives, both decorative and pricing, exist to work within your specific desires.  The pricing provided in the proposal typically includes the development of 2-3 sample boards. Sample boards are a great clarifying tool to make sure that we understand each other, and to verify that your lighting conditions will work well with what we've discussed. Rarely, but sometimes, and client will request additional boards to try a different approach, and these will be charged at a rate of $100/board for a 1-3 color glaze and $150-$200/board for more complex techniques.

Should the project not go forward at this point, the client will be charge for the samples developed to cover materials and execution.

What can I do to help get the look I want?

Clients with pictures ripped out of magazines, scraps of fabric, a few words describing the feeling tone they wish to experience help a lot. And because this sort of investigation and discovery is part of the fun, I also welcome clients who would consider themselves “design challenged”.

Another important factor to consider is to think about what your pricing parameters are for the project. I can create beautiful finishes at almost any price point, but it somewhat dampens the experience to get excited about a multi-layered and custom-tinted polished plaster effect, only to discover that the cost of the “BMW” finish surpasses the hoped for “Honda” pricing.
